Sydney was in rare form when we were babysitting on ‘Date Night.’ She was watching my DVD and Baby James was annoying her a little. I kept telling BJ to stop bothering his sister. A few minutes later I heard Syd exclaim: “Stop bothering ME. Go bother JOE BILL!!!” It seems that Syd has good skills as a delegator!

The kids later happily played together in the bathtub. Syd, the little show off, called the water “agua” and with a tiny bit of prompting from me she started counting in Spanish. BJ, a man of few words, just giggled all thru the bath.

When it was time for Syd to go to bed, in her most adorable way, she kept getting me to snuggle with her. Then she’d jump up and want to read a couple of extra books…which was expected since we hadn’t yet reached the magic number of 5. As she’d run over to the bookshelf in the hall to get more books, she’d point at me demanding sternly: “Stay in my room.” She wanted to lock me in there but I was too smart for that 2 year old…I managed to get out of her room every time she got in the hall because I didn’t want to be locked in!!!

The next day when JB asked Syd if she REALLY was trying to lock me in, with a big grin on her gorgeous little face she said: “Yes.” If I HAD been locked in her room, who knows WHEN I might have gotten out. I didn’t have my cell phone with me, she doesn’t have her own “Princess Phone” in her room and JB was watching some loud sports event on TV downstairs and never would have heard me begging to get out.

This is a WARNING to all of you: Don’t let Syd trick you into being alone in her bedroom!! Since I started writing this, I’ve come to learn from Jimmy that having something sharp on you might be helpful if you’re locked in! Remember, it isn’t too late to put a Swiss Army Knife on your Holiday gift wish list!!

I’m not sure if you’ve heard that Syd went dressed as Sydney Marie Stewart during part of the Halloween festivities. Yes, she’s one confident female. When Jimmy and Syd came to the fun lawfirm’s children’s Halloween party she was decked out in the cute UT cheerleader dress you’ve seen in pictures. At lunch she leaned over to me and in her adorable little girl voice said: “This is a really good party.” Being the daughter of a major party animal, Syd knows a thing or two about good parties.

JB and I brought her home for her nap and then we were taking Syd and Baby James to meet Skyler and Jimmy at Sydney’s Preschool Halloween party. Did Syd want to put on her cheerleader dress again? No. Did she want to wear one of the jillion costumes available at our house? No. Much to our surprise she wore one of her own dresses…not a costume, mind you…which leads me to believe that Syd came dressed as Sydney Marie Stewart!

JB and I both noticed that Syd didn’t care that the other kids had on costumes. She was quite content with what she was wearing. Frankly, I’m convinced that next year a bunch of little girls won’t be wearing princess costumes…they’ll be coming to the party as that renowned child fashionista and style icon Sydney Marie Stewart!

Love, D2
